NESOP’s CAMP PHOTO is a summer workshop dedicated to high school students ages 15-18 who want to experiment with their photographic visions.  This summer's programs are for students wanting to immerse themselves in the world of digital photography.  Two workshops will be offered in July and two will be offered in August.

CAMP PHOTO:  Capturing Creative Digital Images

This introductory week-long course is designed to assist young students in honing their digital capture skills and gaining comfort with their digital SLR cameras by means of experiential learning.  Through daily excursions around Boston, students will gain practical experience shooting in different environments, ultimately advancing their technical, creative and practical understanding of digital photography. Photographing as a group, under the supervision of their instructor, students will problem-solve shooting in difficult locations and gain inspiration from each other. In addition to location shooting, students will have the opportunity to experience making photographs in the controlled environment of the studio as well. After shooting each day, students will download their images onto a provided portable flash drive and the week will culminate on the final class session with a slideshow presentation of each student’s work.

Required:  Students must have a digital SLR camera set-up (with adjustable exposure settings), including lens, battery, manual and memory card.

Parents/Guardians please note:  As per the course description, students will be taken outside the school facilities and around the city of Boston on shooting expeditions during this workshop.   Your signature on the enrollment agreement document indicates your knowledge and understanding of the course description and acts as (your) permission to allow your child/student to participate in these daily excursions.

CAMP PHOTO:  Editing & Printing Your Digital Images

During this week-long course, students will learn to organize, develop and print their digital photographs. Using the professional software, Adobe Lightroom, class participants will begin to explore this powerful program and use it to unleash the potential in their photographs. Each day new skills will be introduced to further creative, technical and practical understanding. The basics of inkjet printing will be discussed and students will have ample time to make their own prints on NESOP professional quality Epson printers (paper will be provided). Students will have the option to bring in their own previously shot digital images to use, or to use images that are shot around the school.  Throughout the week, there will be critiques of students’ work in progress and the final day will culminate with each student sharing their favorite prints from the week.

Required:  Students must have a digital camera (SLR not required) as there will be opportunities to shoot during the week.  The school will provide the ink, paper for printing and a small flash drive for each student to take home their images.  Familiarity with computers is assumed.  While not essential, some familiarity with Macs is helpful, as we will be working exclusively on Mac computers.
