Peter Howell Tennis Camp

Peter Howell, Hall of Fame Tennis Coach at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA returns as the director of this excellent Junior Tennis Camp for the fourteenth year! Parents and campers have raved about this camp, over 65% return year after year. Coach Howell has a long history of running excellent tennis camps during his career at the Atlanta Athletic Club, Ansley Golf Club, Bitsy Grant Tennis Center, The Standard Club as well as Oglethorpe University. He is a renowned tennis professional in the Atlanta Tennis Community. He has been inducted into the Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame, the USPTA-Southern Division Hall of Fame, as well as the Georgia Professional Tennis Hall of Fame. He recently added the Oglethorpe University Athletic Hall of Fame to his list! Peter Howell brings 40+ years of tennis teaching/coaching experience, having worked with several Collegiate All-Americans during his career. As a player, he was ranked #5 Nationally and #1 in Georgia. He has been selected Tennis Professional of the Year four times, and Senior Player of the Year twice.

This year we will offer 6 weeks of our fabulous tennis sessions. The mission of this camp is to teach the younger kids to actually PLAY Tennis versus just hitting balls! We will work hard to raise the level of play of the more advanced players. Each camper is placed in a group appropriate to his or her skill level from beginner, to intermediate and advanced. We stress solid fundamental ground strokes, volleys and serves and especially PLAYING the game! Match play, drills and fitness are coordinated in each daily plan done in a fun environment. Our goal is to teach the strategy of the game as well as the basic fundamental strokes. Our staff tailors instruction to each camper's abilities with our low student/ teacher ratio. We offer at least 30 hours of tennis instruction per session plus off-court cross training activities.
