Summer Cowboy Camp is a six day camp designed to demonstrate a pack trip in the mountains. Campers will be able to learn how to pack a horse and then set off to the campsite (located on the quarter). All activities will be done on the home land except the trail rides to Gabriel Lake which is a 3 hr round trip.
Campers will have designated horses and learn to be responsible for their mount before their own needs. Daily safety and proper horse care will be overseen by the Trail Boss (Russ) and Trail Guide (Amanda).
There will be a camp cook (Colleen) and Activity Coordinator (Sandra) onsite at camp 24/7 as chapparones.
Days will be filled with opportunities to use horse in games, trail rides, moving cattle, learning to rope (roping dummies), geo caching/ man tracker and more...Camfire stories and the cermonial "talking stick" will conclude each days adventures with the sharing of campers experiences.
Campers will be sleeping outdoors (tee pee and tents provided) as this will be as authentic as if we were in the mountains!
This camp is steeped in rich outfitting history from the McKenzie family who spent 40 years packing horses and guests up the Rocky Mountains for hunting and camping expeditions. It will be an honor to pass down this tradition in a safe way to youth who are interested in the true cowboy lifestyle.
