YMCA Camp Erdman offers 10 one-week sessions of traditional camp and specialty camps for kids 6-16 on Oahu’s North Shore. Campers thrive in an environment where counselors nurture and encourage them to discover who they are. Campers unplug, make friends, try new things, learn responsibility and gain self-confidence.
Staff applicants are carefully screened and selected for skills, enthusiasm for camp and their ability to be positive role models for the children and teens in their care. Once on-site, all staff participate in an intensive week-long orientation and are mentored throughout the summer.
Each cabin houses 2 counselors and up to 14 campers, never rising above our average 1:7 ratio. Cabin groups eat together family style in our dining hall where campers share the responsibility of serving and cleaning up.
We encourage exploration and adventure with two morning progressive skill tracks and an option for a specialty camp. Specialty camps include horseback riding, surfing, farming or English as a second language. Afternoons are spent in ‘Ohana’ (family) groups making friends while experiencing high ropes activities, sports, arts or swimming in our pool. In the evenings, campers participate in an all-camp activity followed by a campfire. Once a week, younger campers spend the night in tents on our beach and older campers travel off-site for an overnight experience.
Our 6 values, Malama (stewardship), Laulima (working together for a common good), Kuleana (the privilege of responsibility), ‘Imi ‘Ike (each person reaching their own person potential), Aloha (loving and caring for one another), and Na’au Pono (doing the right thing), are woven throughout the camp experience.
Teen campers have the option to choose from three specialty programs. Our one-week Teen Adventure Camp includes off-site trips to snorkel, camp and stand-up paddle board. Our two-week options include Leaders in Training (LITs) and Counselors in Training (CITs). Perfect for veteran campers, LITs become more connected with the camp community by building leadership skills through group experiences and challenges. Values help mold teens into leaders for tomorrow. The next step, our CIT program, trains teens to become camp counselors with a focus on the responsibilities and fun of working at camp with opportunities to assist in cabins and to shadow experienced staff.
Camp is accredited by the American Camping Association.
Our goal is to send campers home feeling good about who they are, the relationships they have made and the skills they have gained. YMCA Camp Erdman provides a balance of education, fun, challenge, responsibility and adventure.
