Looking for an interesting read, but don't want to slog through piles of statistics? Us too. In this recent installment to "Camp Business Magazine," Dr. Christopher Thurber (our original Camp Scholar contributor) and Dr. Barry Garst join forces to make sense of the ACA's "Emerging Issues" survey. Administered in the fall of 2007, this survey polled more than 300 camp directors to get a sense of what's working and what's not at camp. Among other things, the survey asked about management, staffing, and behavior problems. (For a link to the entire survey and its results, visit: ACA Survey Results).

Check out Chris and Barry's cogent summary of this complex data set and see how your camp compares. Learn what your fellow camp directors are adding to their staff training repertoire, what their electronic technology policies are for campers, and what they see as their biggest staff misbehavior issues. As you prepare for success in 2009, it's wise to take stock of past years' hurdles.
