Summer Academic Adventures Intern
The intern team is central to the success of SAA, and our hope is that SAA can provide interns with a good introduction into working at a boarding school. Interns will assist a master teacher in the classroom, or they will organize, lead and facilitate an afternoon activity. Activity options range from traditional sports, fitness, or mountaineering. Interns will live on dorm and serve as a hall parent, monitoring study hall and being available to students for extra help and guidance. Morning time will either be spent in the classroom or prepping for afternoon, weekend, and evening activities. Weekends will be spent supervising our off-campus excursions. Advising students is also an important part of the interns’ role at SAA. Students will be assigned to a faculty and intern advisory team. As advisors, interns will be responsible for leading their groups in small activities and team building activities. They also serve as mentors to the campers as they interact with new peers on dorm and learn to cope with being away from home. Interns will write comments at the end of the session and send some sort of correspondence home to parents at the mid-session.
The intern experience is challenging but also rewarding. Interns are who the students remember most and who the school looks to for energy, enthusiasm, and setting the tone of the program.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of college.
- Interest in education and experience working with middle school-aged students is preferred.
- Ability to lead afternoon activities (traditional sports or outdoor adventure activities – ropes course facilitation, rock climbing, biking, and kayaking).
- CPR & First Aid is required. Lifeguard and Wilderness First Aid Certifications are strongly preferred.
