Description

Live at Home, Work at Camp this Summer!

When we ask our camp parents about their child's camp experience, time and again they respond that the staff made the difference. Our staff are carefully chosen for their ability to effectively and positively work with children. We recruit from colleges and universities throughout California and across the country, looking for young adults who hope to spend their summer making a difference in our campers' lives.  As day camps, we do not have housing avaiable for our staff.  Staff members live in our local Southern California area.

Our senior staff are college age and older. Each group of 11-14 campers has one senior counselor plus a co-counselor (graduating high school senior) or a CILT (high school volunteer). These individuals make the difference in our campers' summers by being positive adult role models, responsible leaders and trusted friends.

Our staff also includes instructional specialists. Specialists are hired not only for their nurturing, fun and caring natures, but also for their ability to teach in their specialty areas. These areas include swimming, horses, arts and crafts, nature, music, gymnastics, offsite hiking, rock climbing and the high-ropes challenge course.

In our search for the best staff, we receive over 500 staff applications each year and interview a narrowed group of approximately 250 applicants in our group interviews. Successful group interview candidates are then interviewed individually by a director. In addition to new staff, every year we have many staff members return from previous summers. This balance of new and old staff allows us to continue our traditions while keeping each summer new and fresh for our campers.

Our staff selection process includes:

  • Group and individual interviews with at least one of our camp directors
  • Reference checks through personal phone calls
  • Professional criminal background checks
  • A check of the California Justice Department's Child Molester Registry

Our staff also:

  • Participate in over 30 hours of training prior to the first day of camp
  • Commit to random drug testing throughout the summer
  • Attend weekly summer staff meetings to further their development
