Job:  Conservation Crew Counselor

Who We Are:  CEP is a non-profit employment and training company that facilitates both state and private programs in the state of Wisconsin. Crex Meadows Conservation Camp is a service we offer to high school youth interested in working in an environmental science career or youth looking to have that "first job". We team with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to provide valuable and educational work experiences during a three-week session. Evenings and weekends are spent doing outdoor education activities.

What You Do:  Located on 30,000 acres of state wildlife refuge land, Crex Meadows Conservation Camp is a unique opportunity to see the Northwood’s of Wisconsin! Camp Counselors are responsible for the supervision of twenty high-school aged youth in a residential summer youth conservation camp. Counselors teach positive work ethics and skills to youth. Counselors motivate participants to appreciate the importance of conservation work, and work with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on projects. Examples of such projects are trail brushing, habitat restoration, Canada Goose round-ups, and litter patrol. Counselors work alongside youth Monday through Friday and are responsible for planning and supervising evening and weekend activities that have an outdoor/environmental education theme. Counselors will serve as mentors for the youth and adhere to rules and regulations. Work is accomplished as part of a team consisting of four counselors, a camp director, and Wisconsin DNR personnel. It is a salaried limited term position. Camp is in three sessions from June 18-August 3. Counselors must attend a staff training session 6/11-6/14.

Counselors must possess current certification in the following: -Wilderness Advanced First Aid or Wilderness First Responder and CPR.  Certification in Lifeguarding is also preferred.  Applicants should possess or be working on a Bachelors degree in outdoor education, natural resources, therapeutic recreation, education, social work, or another related field. Applicants should have at least 2 years experience in working with youth in a wilderness/camp setting and enjoy working with students!

Salary:  $450.00/wk for 8 weeks (6/11-8/4) plus room and board and worker's compensation. Counselors work five day shifts.
