YMCA Camp Ravencliff is a very rustic camp located along a hillside along the Eel River in Southern Humboldt County. This year marks our 75th Anniversary! Our rich history is founded in a belief in providing a magical experience for kids. This is done through a small camp program (maximum 80 campers/week), creative and imaginative programming, and a program based on choice where campers choose most of their daily activities.
Much of what we call the "magic" of Ravencliff is brought about through the creative imagination of our staff. As I mentioned, we are a rustic camp, which means we don't have a lot of the "bells & whistles" that more modern camps have. But our campers still have an amazing time and come back year after year. This is primarily a result of our programming style. We let our staff dream up the activities they'd like to do which creates a fun program, allows us to take advantage of each counselor's unique talents, and allows our staff to do the types of things they really enjoy. So, in addition to more traditional activities like softball, hiking, swimming, canoeing, archery, etc., a typical day at Ravencliff might also feature activity offerings like Hiding from Authority, Fish Diets, Getting Dirty (in mud & paint), Super Twinkies, Oatmeal Facial/Spa, etc.
Some of our camp's greatest features are our riverfront location (campers arrive in camp by canoe), our campfire across from Echo rock where campers can hear their voice echoed back to them every night when they do the "Y-Yell" at campfire, and our memorable overnight campouts in the backwoods where each cabin group cooks over the fire and sleeps under the stars in their own outdoor campsite.
We run a total of 6 weeks, June 25-Aug. 6, with the first week being an intensive staff training, followed by 4 youth sessions for age 7-13 and one teen session for ages 13-15. Our sessions run Sunday to Sunday. All staff receive a full 24 hour day off each week.
