Job Description
Theater Director Minimum Qualifications • Must be at least 23 years old and have completed one year of college • Must agree with and support Camp Shane’s mission statement • Must be willing to comply with camp rules and regulations • Must possess strong leadership and supervisory skills • Must have ability to relate well and enjoy working with kids. Have a positive attitude, be mature, possess high moral standards, be an excellent role model, have an appropriate appearance, ability to accept guidance and supervision • Must have sufficient experience producing theater • Must be innovative and a self-starter. Reports to: Head Counselor Responsibilities, but not limited to: Produce three musicals during the summer. Select three plays and edit the scripts so that each performance is approximately 45 minutes. You can select and edit (prior to the summer staring) any play, or choose from our library of pre-edited scripts. A piano player works with the theater director by helping with auditions, teaching campers songs, playing at rehearsals and accompanying during performances. The prime objective is for the campers to enjoy themselves - we are not overly concerned with making Broadway extravaganzas. There are many campers who want to participate and we like to utilize as many campers as possible (or all campers that audition) in each play. There are many talented campers and staff members who are very interested in theater arts and who have many talents. You will hold auditions. You will be responsible for calling rehearsals and completely producing and directing the shows. You will work with staff members and campers who are interested in creating the scenery and costumes for each show. The Theater Director is also responsible for assisting the counselors in putting on skits, organizing a talent show for campers and another for counselors and for supervising the theater when used by visiting entertainers or other camp programs. The Theater Director is responsible for the theater itself, in terms of keeping it clean, putting equipment away, storing supplies, etc.Job Criteria
