Job Description
Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree or at least 30 years old • At least 3 years of administrative or supervising experience in camping • Ability to accept guidance and supervision • Emotional maturity, good moral character and integrity. Responsible to: Director & Assistant Director General Responsibilities: Works closely with the Director and the Assistant Director. Responsibilities include all overseeing all aspects of programming and scheduling, supervising campers and staff, handling interpersonal relationships, creating and running events. Specific Responsibilities, but not limited to: • Meets with the Camp Director and other Head Counselors on a daily basis to plan and evaluate running the camp • Runs daily meeting with Group Leaders to coordinate running of boy’s camp by giving instructions and getting feedback. Works closely training Group Leaders and in coordinating activities for their groups • Runs daily line – ups • Observes condition of cabins to insure that they are kept clean. • Walks around camp to insure that activities are running smoothly, that instruction is taking place, that all campers and staff are participating, and that there is a strong spirit of cooperation and fun. • Observes or participates in activities along with the kids and counselors • Evaluates staff performance and makes recommendations how to best utilize individuals • Helps create and run programs. Takes charge of overseeing the staffing, planning and successful running of special events. • Need to understand the daily, evening and special event programs. Knows how all activities and procedures work in camp. Trains staff and communicates to campers so that everyone knows what will be going on in camp and how things work. • Keeps good humor and spreads positive reinforcement to all • Visits each cabin, even briefly, each day to get to know kids and to be available if needed • Is a helpful listener to all • Builds staff moral by being respectful, helpful and nice to everybody • Assigns days off and OD posts and is a Head OD • Acts as a mediator with staff and campers when necessary • May run off camp trips at times • Deals with kids who may be behavior problems • Responsible for dealing with specific staff problems including non performance of responsibilities • Occasionally speaks to parents if there is a problem with a child • Helps run staff training sessions during orientation; meets with Counselors to enhance two way communication; helps run weekly all-staff meetings.Job Criteria
