Summer Camp Nurse

Description:
Camp Choconut is a Boys' residential camp for ages 9 – 15 founded in 1896. Our 88th season will be a six-week session from June 23 – August 4, 2012. A concurrent three-week session is available from June 23 – July 21, 2012. We are a wilderness camp of 55 boys on a private lake in the middle of 800+ acres, a safe place for boys to explore in a clean, natural setting under the supervision of counselors who are carefully chosen as good role models. Our program is designed to build the whole boy, establish a sense of self-awareness with one's surroundings, and develop character in a safe, secure environment - all while having fun.

The mission of Camp Choconut is to promote the highest standards of creativity, responsibility, confidence, independence and reliance in one’s surroundings and abilities through the teaching of outdoor living skills and, to instill in young people an awareness of nature's important role in the enrichment of the human spirit.


Qualifications:
Licensed LPN or RN. Experience with children and young adults. It will be your job to provide and monitor quality health care, maintain records and manage the health care facility. All certifications in order. Live and work in a boys’ residential summer camp community.

Salary/Benefits:
Compensation for the right person $425 - $500/week, dependent on experience - plus room and board, 1 day off a week, time off every day.

Responsibilities:
To be the nurse on campus. To supervise health and cleanliness standards. To work with the staff to provide adequate physical health conditions for all within the guidelines of the American Camp Association.

Primary Responsibilities:
Review and ensure each staff member and camper has a health history / examination form on file, as required. Managing the dissemination of health issues and concerns of campers to appropriate staff. Carry out system for health screening for arriving campers and staff. Manage appropriate medical routines including record keeping in the daily medical log, dispensing of daily medications, weekly camper weigh-ins and screenings, disposal of medical waste, and managing and safeguarding medications. Manage the health center, including the procurement of necessary medical supplies. 6. Make appointments as necessary with local medical/dental personnel and coordinate transportation with Camp Director. Communicate with Camp Director and parents relating to wellness of campers and staff. Manage any medical situation that requires special attention, including any necessary follow-up. Keep a daily log of all staff and campers visiting the infirmary, and reason for visit. Prepare in advance medications for daily use for those on schedule as well as for trips out of camp. Maintain a locked and secure nurses office. Provide first aid care of campers and staff if injured. Keep records of incident reports in the event of an accident. Prepare memos on insurance report if applicable. Complete Accident/incident reports for risk management assessment. Coordinate insurance claims and incident reports with Camp Manager. Schedule all allergy shots for season in clinic. Have regular scheduled head checks for lice identification. Keep complete records of supplies and equipment including stock medications and first aid items. Work with Camp Manager to order additional supplies when stock is decreasing. Provide necessary consent forms and insurance paperwork when a hospital visit or out of camp physician visits are required. Supervise any admitted campers/staff while they are in the infirmary. Provide and prepare medication distribution for campers and staff who will be on out of camp trips. Organize first aid kits for areas around camp with Site Manager. Organize first aid kits for trips out of camp. Have final exam of campers with parents prior to departure at end of session. Distribute all returning medications and personal equipment to parents upon departure at end of session. Complete closing inventories and review season for collection of summer end. Work with house staff to maintain infirmary patient rooms with clean linens and supplies.
