Job Description

Position Summary:

A Support Specialist is responsible for the direct care and supervision of all campers, supporting daily camp operations through classroom and group assistance, promoting and actively participating in all camp activities, and serving as a positive role model for campers and Team members.

 

Position Objective/Purpose:

We are seeking motivated team members who believe deeply in the organization’s mission and who display a record of achievement in effective supervision & management of youth.  The candidate must be capable of building positive relationships, providing top-notch customer service and ensuring the safety and well-being of people of all ages.  

 

Position Scope Factors:

Support Specialists are employed in the following camps;

·         Day Camp: 4 – 8 year olds

·         Senior Camp: 9 – 15 year olds

·         Dream Camp: 6 – 16 year olds (Trinity College & Girard College locations only)

·         Aquatics: all ages (must have all current certifications: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid Certification

Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification)

 

 

Essential Job Responsibilities                                                                                   

1.       Group supervision of campers with attention to: behavior and group management, health and safety, security, and personal and skill development

2.       Stand-in for counselors, coaches, activity specialists, and lifeguard/swim instructors (AQ only) as needed

3.       Knowledge of all camp positions, their corresponding job responsibilities and age groups

4.       Help to plan and facilitate special events

  1. Assist tribes/groups during lunch and transition times
  2. Assist Directors and Nurse in whatever capacity needed
  3. Complete paperwork as assigned
  4. Serve as a positive role model to campers and Team members
  5. Monitor the organization, supervision, and administration of all activities and assemblies
  6. Attend and contribute to daily morning briefing
  7. Model behavior & group management strategies for groups
  8. Conduct tours of the camp facilities and program areas to prospective camp families when applicable
  9. Follow the ESF Code and maintain the ESF Look at all times
  10. Exhibit ESF Core Values at all times and to adhere to all company policies
  11. Have fun
  12. Other responsibilities as assigned

Experience Requirements

  1. Previous experience working with children, examples include but are not limited to; babysitting, academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant, religious education teacher
  2. At least 1 year post-graduate teaching experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience in a field relevant to camp administration/leadership   
  3. Previous camp counselor/teaching  experience (preferred)

 

Certification Requirements

1.       First Aid/CPR (preferred)

 

Education Requirements

1.       Bachelor’s degree

 

Other Skill Requirements

  1. Outstanding communication skills which include the ability to use clear, concise and grammatically correct written and oral language in all aspects of professional interaction with campers, their families, peers, leadership team and the larger community

 

Reporting Relationship(s)

1.       Reports directly to and takes direction from Camp Director. May also take direction from and is overall accountable to the Site Director.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

1.       Ability to push/pull, lift and carry a minimum of 35Ibs

  1. Endurance to work outside and on your feet for 6-8 hours per day
  2. Ability to respond to emergency situations which may require running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and climbing stairs.
  3. Good physical condition which enables candidate to execute all responsibilities associated with this position
