Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Acceptance of Easter Seals goals, objectives and philosophy of camping. 2. Minimum age of 21 years with experience. 3. Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the State of Colorado. 4. Good physical and mental health. Should be capable of lifting, pivoting and transferring a 40 to 50 - pound person safely and with good balance. 5. Possess mature judgment, leadership and supervisory skills. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Supervise the medical needs of all the campers and staff members. Screen all staff members at the beginning of the summer. Be sure their physical forms and health history forms are current. 2. In medical matters, act under the guidance and advice of the consulting staff physician. 3. Maintain individual camper health records and read all campers’ applications before they arrive. Make note of any special considerations on history and assessment forms. 4. Collect all medications that staff and campers have, and dispense medications at prescribed times. 5. During check-in of each session, consult with the camper and parents/guardians about all medical concerns, activity restrictions, medicine, etc., for each camper. All campers must be seen by the nurse during check-in. 6. Instruct the entire staff on the medical information they will need to know, such as universal precautions, checking skin, personal care, camper treatments, etc. 7. Maintain direct and open communication with Co - Nurse regarding camper care, staff concerns, and sharing living quarters. 8. Clear each camper before dismissal on check-out day and discuss any medical concerns with the parent or guardian. 9. Comply with the American Camping Association’s standards for Health Care. Guidelines will be made available during staff training. 10. Conduct daily cabin/dormitory inspections for cleanliness and neatness. Communicate problems to the Director and/or Program Director. 11. Arrange any special diets, supplementary feedings, or dietary restrictions of campers, and/or staff with the Food Service Coordinator. 12. Update medical log, pill charts, and individual medical records daily. 13. Inform Director and/or Program Director of any accidents or incidents that have occurred. Be sure to document all accidents and/or incidents using the appropriate form. Be familiar with the camp’s worker’s compensation claim process. 14. Maintain proper cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance of all nursing equipment and facilities. Report in writing to the Maintenance Director anything that needs to be repaired. 15. Report in writing all first aid and medical supplies needed. 16. Maintain open communications with all staff and encourage and welcome constructive feedback with all staff – expect the same from others. 17. Attend all staff meetings and provide feedback on the medical aspects of camp. 18. Perform any other duties assigned by the Director. 19. Responsible for campers and staff 24 hours/day with 2 - 4 hour breaks each day. 20. Required to live onsite and room and board is included.
