Job Description

The Center Director (CD) is responsible for the smooth and efficient running of all aspects of the center. The CD must ensure that communication channels are open between the US Head Office (HO) and all managers within their center. The CD is expected to take on and successfully handle a demanding workload that involves implementing, participating and monitoring the day-to- day management of the center. In addition, the CD is responsible for maintaining an excellent working relationship with the host University/College administrative staff. The CD is required to live at the center and have knowledge of the city/cities that one is working in. We have positions available in nine different locations across North America (near Boston, Honolulu, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, South Florida, Toronto and New Haven, CT). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Overall responsibility of the day-to- day management of all aspects of the center. • Ensure that all necessary materials and equipment are in place at the center in time for the students’ arrival. • Provide a comprehensive orientation to all center staff upon arrival. • Lead daily team meetings with the center management staff to ensure the smooth running of the center. • Lead daily foreign group leader meetings to review each upcoming day. • Hold regular meetings with the appropriate host School/College administrative staff regarding meal numbers, packed lunches, catering issues, student numbers / expected arrivals, etc. • Create a strong and clear line of management and communication with the center management team in order to deliver a successful summer program. • Ensure that high levels of student safety and welfare are maintained with particular attention given to individual students. • Ensure that school rules are adhered to. Responsible for all aspects of student behavior. • Create an effective and positive staff team. Ensure that all staff are motivated and carrying out their roles and duties to a high standard. • Liaising with HO in respect to staff pay, staff behavior, etc. when appropriate. • Ensure that information is accurate and clearly displayed in Ardmore office (staff schedules, staff mobile numbers, group arrival / departure times, etc.) • Manage staff effectively and ensure: o HO receives accurate and current data on student and staff numbers. o Teaching and activity programs are implemented effectively. o Center administration and documentation is carried out efficiently. o Damages, equipment and resources are recorded and monitored throughout the course. o All serious incidents are dealt with and reported to HO. o Security and safety of students, foreign group leaders and staff at all times. o Student and staff discipline is maintained. o Appropriate staffing levels are maintained at all times (in consultation with HO). • Assist and support the center management team in residential supervision duties including meal and bedtime supervision and additional welfare duties on a rota basis. • Check and approve the petty cash budget within the center. • Teach, when necessary, but only in extreme emergencies such as multiple teacher absence through sickness, etc. (applies to qualified staff only). • Set up and close the center at the end of the course and submit an end of center report to HO including staff evaluations. • Ensure that Ardmore Language Schools Health & Safety policies and security registers are implemented and adhered to at all times. All staff should show respect for the opinions and feelings of students, foreign group leaders and colleagues no matter what their religion, race, age background, gender or sexual orientation. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE • Previous experience in a management role working in a summer camp, residential school and/or similar environment • Ability to lead and manage a team • Excellent communication skills • Ability to thrive in a high pressure environment • Excellent time management and organizational skills • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks • Mature outlook in responsibility, trustworthiness and approachability • Professional in appearance • Eligible to live and work in the US RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE • CD residential experience in camp and/or summer schools • Proven problem solving abilities
