Job Description

One of the premier visual and performing arts programs for young people in the world, SOCAPA offers teen summer programs in Filmmaking, Acting for Film, Dance (Contemporary Jazz & Hip-Hop), Photography (Darkroom & Digital), and Music (Singer- Songwriter). SOCAPA is seeking a highly motivated Resident Director for our New York City and Vermont campuses. The Resident Director lives on campus and heads the resident life component of the program. The Resident Director is responsible for the health, safety, and well- being of the students and resident life staff. The Resident Director works very closely with, and reports directly to the Campus Director and Director of Summer Programs. 
 The RD provides assistance to the Campus Director as needed.
 Responsibilities: along with the Campus Director, hire residential life staff prior to student arrival lead residential life training for all dorm staff at the start of the summer provide refresher training as needed on an individual or group basis oversee and direct residential life staff on a regular basis schedule the extracurricular activities for SOCAPA students plan, organize and execute the evening and weekend activities and all non-program related activities with attention to travel details, supervision, staffing, and schedule lead trips and activities most evenings and weekends act as host for camp and promote high staff and camper morale develop and maintain good relationships with students and parents; ensure good communication with families about any issues concerning their children maintain each student's health plan, specifically those with dietary and medical needs oversee nightly student check-in process attend to any dorm-related issues, disciplinary or inter- personal manage and coordinate student travel to and from camp each session handle logistics on check in and check out days for each session ensure that the rules and schedules are followed consistently Qualifications: Candidates for this position should: have knowledge of youth development practices enjoy and have experience in leadership positions with teenagers have demonstrated ability to develop a strong and respectful rapport with youth quickly have good judgment and the ability to respond well in disciplinary and emergency situations have experience with conflict resolution and at solving interpersonal issues have at least two years Resident Life experience or have similar camp leadership training and experience have proven experience managing staff while being part of a team have strong leadership, communication and organizational skills be a strong public speaker and group manager take initiative be energetic, caring and responsible have excellent time management be flexible, organized, detail-oriented and quick- thinking be able to plan ahead but also respond well in crisis situations have strong computer skills, preferably Mac, and know Excel well Advanced First Aid and CPR Pro certifications are required. On-Site Position dates: June 9th - August 13th 2016 Some additional training and preparation leading up to the start of camp may be required.
