DescriptionBack to top

Aldersgate is a camp and retreat center owned and operated by the North Central New York Conference of the United Methodist Church. We are located 1 hour north of Utica, NY, on the western edge of the Adirondack Park. We open our facility to churches, educational groups, and other nonprofit organizations without regard to religious affiliation. We can serve groups ranging from 8 to 300 people, depending upon the season.
Our site boasts over 200 wooded acres, a beautiful hiking trails, and land on THREE Adirondack Lakes (Pleasant, Brantingham, and Lake of the Pines). In addition to providing facilities for groups to conduct their own retreats meetings, worship services, and programs, we can assist with program planning, guide groups through our low ropes course, conduct retreats and workshops, lead singing and games, and provide supervision for recreation activities.
In the summer months (Mid June to Mid August) we operate as a Christian youth camp. All youth from ages 5 to 18 are invited to spend a week or more in one of our exciting summer programs.

We are really excited about our summer camp programs this year! We have over 50 programs for children and youth, ages 5-18, which vary in length from a couple of days to a full week long. In addition to all of the "camp favorites" like swimming, arts and crafts, basketball, volleyball, and hiking we offer tons of unique activities that include building models , eating ice cream for breakfast, jumping on the AquaPark, carnivals, gymnastics, woodworking, and horseback riding.
Camp gives children a solid foundation that lasts a lifetime. Camp equips youth for success at school, at home, at church, and in the world by building them up and giving them the gifts of self-confidence, faith in God, and a healthy sense of self-worth. Campers just don't hear about something, they do it! Everything at camp is hands on, feet on, and heads up. Campers become interested, get involved, and achieve.
Our programs are run and campers are cared for by a group of people who are passionate about the effect they can have on a camper's life. Whether staff or volunteer, these loving people are the key to a positive camping experience. All are of college age or older, and are chosen for their maturity and personal integrity, skills, patience, and desire to be Christian role models for youth, and share in the spirit of fun and excitement at camp. All staff and volunteers fill out an application, sign a disclosure statement, and provide references. Applicants are carefully screened and, if chosen, supervised by camping professionals. Both staff and volunteers undergo valuable training in health and safety, child development, teaching methods, and group dynamics.
The faith message we send is a message that encourages youth to grow in their love and knowledge of Jesus Christ. An essential part of the camp experience is spiritual growth - gaining a better understanding of the importance of fundamental values in their relationship to God, to others, and to the environment. While we are an official extension of the United Methodist Church, we have found that 25 percent of our campers come from other churches or have no church affiliation. Adult leaders are sensitive to the differing backgrounds represented, while striving to make the Christian life real by presenting God's word and love as shown in Jesus Christ. Programs are designed to be age appropriate and include music, worship, drama, Bible exploration and memorization, and prayer.
We believe in what we do. Our staff strives to make a difference because they have had similar experiences as children. Camp is fun and gives youth wonderful gifts. We know because we were those youth.
Our Programs for 2007 ran from June 24-August 3.
Our Programs for 2008 will run from June 29-August 8.
Something for every child! A Place where Lives are Changed!
