DescriptionBack to top

Lyric First Stage is our summer program for young artists (ages 14-20), designed to create an environment where, with professional mentors, a company of enthusiastic teens can explore ideas through text, music and movement, and refine their confidence and artistry in a series of workshops and a repertory theatre production experience.

Peter A. Carey, a professional director, actor and educator, will lead a group of professional theatre artists and educators to work with a small company of actors. This summer, Lyric Stage First will present two productions in repertory at Boston's Lyric Stage Company: a Shakespearean classic and a musical.

Staff also includes Elliot Norton Award winning actress Leigh Barrett, and workshops with leading Boston area theatre artists.

Program Goals
* To develop skills in both Musical Theatre and the world of Shakespeare
* To develop vocal skills - projection, diction, production of sound and vocal care
* To develop body awareness through yoga, movement training and dance
* To develop auditioning skills through workshops with feedback

Enrollment
Lyric Stage welcomes young artists 14-20. NO PRIOR THEATRE EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY, but all participants should be willing to take on responsibilities of being a part of intensive 5-week program. Participants should be highly motivated and engaged.
