Randolph-Macon Academy Summer Programs
Randolph-Macon Academy offers several different summer programs. The Middle School Academic Camp is for students entering grades 6-8 in the fall. Students spend the morning in class, focusing on reading, writing, math, computer skills, and/or study skills. A special History in Action class is being offered in 2005 as well! They attend daily mentoring sessions focused on helping them live away from home in a boarding community, team building, and community service. Recreational activities include trips to amusement parks, area museums and attractions, as well as laser tag and paintball.
The Upper School Program allows students to take one new or two repeat courses for high school credit. Most core classes required for graduation are available. A non-credit course in study skills is also available. Students attend supervised afternoon study halls as well as evening and weekend activities.
The Flight Program includes fifteen hours of flight time and aviation ground school tailored to soloing in a Cessna 152. Federal Aviation Regulations state that a student must be at least 16 years of age or older to earn solo wings. Advanced training is available for qualified students. Flight time will also be available on a per-hour basis for students who are enrolled full time in classes.
The English as a Second Language Program provides the non-English speaking student with practical instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL). The course combines classroom group sessions, individualized self-paced computer programs, cultural experiences, and other activities to provide a total-immersion program of the English Language. The program includes Beginner ESL, Intermediate ESL, Advanced ESL, and TOEFL Prep.
