DescriptionBack to top

Campers at Sterling will be taught many aspects of horse care and management as well as be treated to a top-quality level of riding instruction.  Campers will be evaluated with regards to their riding experience and placed in small group lessons or private lessons.  Riding lessons are taught daily. Lessons are taught on safe, experienced lesson horses.  We focus on the english style of riding with an emphasis on the balanced seat.  Riders will progress from the lunge line to walking, trotting, cantering, and jumping, depending on their level of experience.  Fun, mounted games, mock horse shows, and other special arena exercises are practiced.  No rider will ever be forced into a situation they have not been prepared for.  We focus on safety, fun, and team work.

Horsemanship lessons include hands-on activities and games.  Some of the topics covered include grooming, showing, anatomy, veterinary care, farrier care, stable management, breeds and colors, and many other aspects of equine interest.

Field trips to several different venues are planned each week including to a tack store, miniature horse farm, and carriage horse farm.  Other weekly activities are pizza/movie day, open house, costume day.

Additional daily activities include:  preparation for the weekly open house, use of videos for instruction, horse related arts and crafts, photography sessions to build weekly scrapbook, nature crafts and lessons at the pond.

Parents can be assured that their campers will be treated fairly and will be exposed to the best instruction and safety measures.  Campers can be assured that they will have a wonderful time and gather information that will be useful to them in any area of riding that they pursue.
