Youth Bridge Camp

“Bridge is a great way to learn from inferences. A lot of decisions in life are made by inferring from what you know,” says Warren Buffet. Buffet and Microsoft’s Bill Gates are avid bridge players and are regularly spotted at tournaments across the country.

Bridge has taken a back seat in recent years due to poker, computers, video games, and the many other options available today but bridge is unquestionably the world’s greatest card game. The largest tournaments in the country draw over 4000 players and the American Contract Bridge League, the primary sanctioning organization of duplicate bridge in the US, has 166,000 members. Also, each year, a team of is sent to the World bridge championships in each division: open, senior, women, youth (under 21), and junior (under 26). For 2012, three of the youth players happen to be from Georgia.
With over 800 million different hands you could be dealt, every hand is a new adventure. We all long to have powerful hands with long suits but sometimes the most interesting things occur when we have a mundane hand.

Take a break from the summer sun and video games, keep the math and critical thinking skills sharp, and socialize with other like-minded kids in a good environment, all while learning a game you can play and enjoy the rest of your life. The first set of classes is scheduled for June 4-8 from 4-6pm and is free. The same beginning course will be taught again June 18-22 and an intermediate course for those wishing to continue will be taught sometime in July.
