| CAMP NURSE JOB DESCRIPTION
Minimum Qualifications
***Licensed LPN or RN
***Experience with children and young adults desirable
***Ability to originate, update, and/or monitor health care, maintain records and implement the health care plan
***Current CPR and First Aid certifications
Desire to live and work in a summer camp community
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To be a member of the Health Care team; supervise health and cleanliness standards; work with camp director and staff; help provide adequate physical health conditions for all.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Review and ensure each staff member and camper has a health history/ examination form on file, as required.
2. Carry out system for health screening for arriving campers and staff, as well as for trips out of camp.
3. Review and follow appropriate medical routines including record keeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications and utilizing approved standing orders.
4. Coordinate coverage of the health center.
5. Dispense daily medications and supervise “health call”.
6. Make appointments as necessary with local medical/dental personnel and coordinate transportation with Operations Director.
7. Participate in and assist with the staff training relating to health and safety, CPR, First Aid and precautions for infection control.
8. Communicate with Camp Director and parents relating to wellness of campers and staff.
9. Follow up on any medical situation that requires special attention.
10. Keep a daily log of all staff and campers visiting the infirmary, and reason for visit.
11. Prepare in advance medications for daily use for those on schedule.
12.Maintain a locked and secure infirmary office.
13. Contact directors a minimum of two times daily with administration information and the status of daily “Health Clinic calls”.
14. Provide first aid care of campers and staff if injured.
15. Keep records of incident reports in the event of an accident. Complete memos on insurance report if applicable. Complete Accident/incident reports for risk management assessment.
16. Schedule all allergy shots for season in clinic
17. Have regular scheduled head checks for lice identification
18.Keep co mplete records of supplies and equipment including stock medications and first aid items
19. Order through the Director additional supplies when stock is decreasing- be alert to local suppliers and those with lengthy delivery times.
20. Provide necessary consent forms and insurance paperwork when a hospital visit or out of camp physician visit are asked for.
21. Make regular visits to younger camper cabins to follow up on hygiene
22. Supervise any admitted patients while they are in the infirmary.
23. Work closely with kitchen and dining room staff with in-service related to communicable diseases through food contamination.
24. Provide follow up to both boys and girls campus when campers or staff have been admitted to the infirmary or if restricted activity is called for.
25. Have a positive, fun experience while taking advantage of the country camp setting.
26. Provide and prepare medication distribution for campers and staff who will be on out of camp trips (sports, camping, etc).
27. Organize first aid kits for vehicles, craft shops, H.C.’s and other applicable locations.
28. Distribute all returning medications and personal equipment to campers upon departure at end of season.
29. Complete closing inventories and review season for collection of summer end.
30. Maintain infirmary patient rooms with clean linens and supplies.
