Journey into uncharted waters at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Let your kids join the underwater explorer program for an opportunity to meet sea life and kick their fins in the Great Tide Pool. This program is ideal for kids ages 8 to 13. A program called Days of Discovery is also available for children with exceptional challenges, in partnership with the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Foundations and Children’s Miracle Network. Unique exhibits will allow your kids to get up close with all kinds of aquatic wildlife, from multi- tentacled octopi to undulating jellyfish. Take a tour to learn about sea otter conservation and watch a whiskered otter put on a show. Don't miss the chance to see suited penguins as they waddle to their daily feeding. Your budding marine scientist will love the seashore sleepovers, which include a night of music and games - a perfect way to dive into the magic.
Adventure into the great unknown at Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District. Whether your children a want to check out the Frog Pond Wetland Reserve or slide their toes in the sand at the Marina Dunes Preserve, there is an activity for all interests and age ranges.Hike the beautiful 14-acre Cachagua Community Park and listen to water crash over the mossy rocks, or take part in a scenic horseback ride. Your family can set out a tasty picnic or play a friendly game of horseshoe to idle the time away.
Return to pastoral times at The Farm in Salinas. This hub for agricultural education features farm tours and special family activities for the nature lovers in your family. Stroll along the farmland in a guided tour of Salinas Valley and learn how organic gardening drives this family-run institution. Kids will love to hop on the hayride, and seeing farm animals like chickens and goats will be sure to please as well. Don't forget to sample a fruit pie, which comes fresh off the farm and is baked in a down-home kitchen. Custom and group tours are also available.
