Discover the plants, animals, and environment of the central coast at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History.  Join their summer camp program to check out hundreds of different bird species, including extinct varieties, then dig for ancient treasures at the fossil pit in the native plant garden. Make sure to take your children to see the thousands of Monarch butterflies clustered in their sanctuary during the winter. The whole family can participate in a scavenger hunt around the museum, act out the life cycle of a butterfly, and climb inside the Spirit Nest to experience a bird's home. Explore the magical annual Wildflower Show for a unique botanical experience.

Explore the world under the sea at nearby Monterey Bay Aquarium. Wander with the kids through the many exhibits featuring octopuses, leopard sharks, sea turtles, and jellyfish. Learn all about the species of Monterey Bay, and even spot humpback whales from the museum deck. You can watch a penguin, sea otter, or shark feeding, and listen to presentations by experts to hear the stories of the animals who call the aquarium home. Families can get a closer look on a behind-the-scenes tour, or even participate in a sleepover with the fish.

Get lost in the shelves as you browse the books in the children's section of the Pacific Grove Library. Read a picture book with your child or pick out books for bedtime. Be sure to stop by for story time and game days. Other special events include reading to therapy dogs and an Easter egg hunt in the spring. Your little book lovers will leave delighted after a visit to the library, their arms filled with plenty of stories to read at home.
