Palo Alto is home to several technological companies and the nation’s leading high-technology research center at Stanford University. Camps and attractions are educational and entertaining for kids at the city’s NASA Ames Visitor Center, the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo, the Palo Alto Children’s Theatre and the Computer History Museum. Search through our online database to find summer camp programs in Palo Alto to meet your family’s summer needs.

Give the kids with an interest in astronomy an experience they likely won’t forget at the NASA Ames Visitor Center, where they can enjoy a simulated space exploration through the Milky Way. The center has a variety of exhibits for the family, like the real moon rock retrieved by the crew of Apollo 15, an exhibit of a Mercury Capsule launched in 1960, and the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA), an airborne observatory. In tech-focused and kid-friendly Palo Alto this summer, you can also take an audio tour with your kids at the Computer History Museum, where you can learn about the revolutionary history of computing programming. In their Design_Code_Build program, kids will be involved in STEM experiences which include coding and applied mathematics and will prepare them for their future education and career.

Your kids will be excited to learn more about animals, at the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo, where there are more than 50 species of animals on site. Many of the animals are sent to classrooms in local schools for the Palo Alto’s Junior Museum and Zoo’s science outreach program. The museum and zoo’s summer camp programs will likely include a variety of animals to keep your kids engaged, including birds, fresh water fish, bobcats, and a giant tortoise.

One of the attractions with a focus on the arts is the Palo Alto Children’s Theatre. Visit the theatre with your children for a different kind of kid-focused activity where the family can relax and enjoy a show. The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum offers a junior archaeologist training program for children ages 5 to 17, planetarium films, tours, and workshops.

The Eleanor Pardee Park will give the kids a spacious place to enjoy some fresh air for a change rather than attending shows and walking through museums. It is the second largest neighborhood park in Palo Alto, with two children’s playgrounds, picnic areas, and community gardens. For the kids who are interested in the arts, the park also offers on site dance classes for K-12 public school students. At the Bayland's Nature Preserve, there are activities for the family, including bird watching and boating with canoes, kayaks or small, hand-launched boats and sailboards.
