Michigan, commonly known for its many lakes, offers endless family excitement. With loads of outdoor recreational activities, a diverse history and culture to experience, and spots for classic family fun, Michigan makes for an old-fashioned family vacation.

Savor the fine-grain sandy beaches of Lake Michigan. Build sandcastles, challenge the kids to a swim, or take a boat out for a day on the lake. The Grand Traverse Bay offers remarkable natural attractions with an exciting blend of adventure and discovery. Spend your day swimming, boating, and golfing with your family. Then discover the glory of the outdoors when you hit the 200-mile Michigan Shore-to-Shore trail.

Packed with history and culture, there are sites for the whole family to explore across the state. Michigan is home to 115 lighthouses, from simple metal structures on the coast to historical museums with tours available for kids of all ages. While there are tons of options, the Grand Travers Lighthouse is a good place to begin. Hyper children can burn off some energy at the tallest lighthouse, the New Presque Isle Lighthouse! Don't miss out on other unique Michigan history. Learn about the origins of the Motor City at The Henry Ford Museum. Dozens of interactive exhibits will let the little ones learn about automotive history.

Delight the kids with trips to places packing a powerful punch of family fun. Ann Arbor includes many kid-friendly activities, including children's museums, and Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo are all loved by children. A visit to the Frederik Meijer Gardens will ignite curiosity as kids can follow animal tracks, brush off fossils, and get lost in the butterfly maze. Next, enjoy surviving the wild with an opossum, a parrot, and a tarantula as you take a front row seat at one of the live animal demonstrations held at the John Ball Zoo. Then head to Kalamazoo for the Air Zoo Aviation Museum for an exhilarating ride on a the full-motion flight simulator.
