Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania, has a lot to offer families. Explore a giant model of a heart at the Franklin Institute, zoom down a big wooden slide at the Smith Playhouse, and spark imaginative play at the Please Touch Museum.

Learn about science with your children as you explore tons of interactive exhibits at the Franklin Institute. Your kids can build their own Mars rover, try out being a meteorologist for the day as they report the weather on camera, or watch a show about founding father Benjamin Franklin. Watch them climb in a neural network play structure and explore a giant heart model. Learn the laws of physics as your kids experiment with pulleys and pendulums, and even take a thrilling ride in a flight simulator. With an IMAX theater, a festival in the spring, and family stargazing at the planetarium, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Encourage your child's imagination to run wild at the Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse. Your kids have plenty of room to run and play at the expansive outdoor playground. Speed down a big wooden slide, the highlight of the park, or test your coordination on a moving balance beam. Little ones can whoosh through the air on one of the many swings and climb to the top of the net structure. Head inside the three-story playhouse for a ton more fun. Let your kids curl up in the reading nook, hop aboard a kid-sized train, cook something up in the play kitchen, or have a tricycle race. Enjoy kid-friendly events, like story time, crafts, or the annual music festival. Best of all, the Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse is free.

Get serious about hands-on play at the Please Touch Museum. Interactive exhibits allow your children to explore freely and let their imaginations wander. Kids can try out different careers by working at the construction zone, treating patients at the hospital, or checking out customers at the supermarket. Delve into a new world with your young ones as they navigate their way through Alice’s Wonderland or build their own world at the Imagination Playground out of big foam blocks. Take a ride on the carousel to cap off a fun day, or visit the museum on a special event day to meet characters from your child's favorite storybook.
