Immerse yourself in the expansive beauty of Texas, where everything from desert lands to gigantic lakes rival the size of European countries. Explore the state's capital, embrace the wilderness, or check out some of its best museums.

Jump into fun in Austin, where your child can explore the Friendship State's capitol. Start out at the capitol building, constructed with late 19th century architecture. Your kids will love to check out the massive interior that is second only to Washington, D.C.'s capitol building. Once you've wandered the grounds and visited one of the many monuments, head over to Bullock Museum, where Texas history comes to life. Exhibitions like the live-action reconstruction of theLa Belle ship that was lost at sea for 300 years. Children can observe real artifacts from the ship, including brass kettles, cooking utensils, and the iconic La Belle bronze cannon. If you're looking for a unique outdoor adventure, consider the kayaking and canoeing tours that pass by the capitol's towering buildings.

Revel in the natural beauty only found in Texas, starting at the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. The gorgeous scenery is the perfect backdrop for hiking and camping adventure of all kinds. Whether your kid is interested in biking one of the many trails, studying the wild animals, or even stargazing at night, this is an ideal induction into Mother Nature. If your family wants more fun outdoor experiences, head over to Barton Springs Pool in Zilker Metropolitan Park. At over 900 feet long, it leaves a wide birth to swim and soak up the sun all day long. You and your little ones can also check out the park's botanical gardens or just stretch out on the lawns for a peaceful, midday picnic.

Trigger imagination at any of the child-centric museums. Your kids will love the Space Center in Houston, where they can live out all their fantasies of becoming an astronaut. Children can even learn the ways of the force while building lightsabers at the center's Fun Force Fridays. Marine science lovers will enjoy the Texas State Aquarium. Let the kids meet loquacious dolphins, marvel at the pulsating moon jellies, or check out the massive coral reef. Don't forget the Children's Museum of Houston with multiple playgrounds for a child's mind, including an Inventors' Workshop and the kid-friendly construction area, the Building Zone.
