The great state of Washington once wowed explorers Lewis and Clark and it still impresses today with snow-capped mountains, misty forests, and rocky beaches. Feel the salty breeze in your hair, as you swim and play in the many channels and inlets of Puget Sound, view collections of native art at Seattle Art Museum, and go sky high on the Space Needle for the best view around.

Lounge on the deck of a cozy bed and breakfast and enjoy the Puget Sound sights or go the active route and rent a kayak to traverse the estuaries and try to find a hidden island. The San Juan Islands are a favorite for families who want to take in the natural beauty of Washington. Search the tide pools for hidden treasures with your children, hike out to a waterfall, or even take a zip line trip over wetlands! If the kids are lucky, they may spot a few of the fantastic creatures make their home here, including sea lions, seals, and even better, orca whales.

Sketch your way through the Seattle Art Museum in their Family Fun Workshop. After drawing the galleries, you and your kids get to create a masterpiece through the guidance of a professional artist. The first Saturday of every month is free and offers fun artistic training in calligraphy, cherry blossom water color paintings, and shadow puppets. Take the children to the Asian Art Museum for a different take on things with exhibits like Japanese Neo-Pop and paintings from the Ramayana of India. If it's a beautiful day, be sure to go outside and run around with your little ones at the Olympic Sculpture Park afterwards.

Face your fear of heights at the at the most popular landmark of all, the Seattle Space Needle. The observation deck is 520 feet high with 360 degree views of the downtown lights, the busy waterfront, and the regal mountains in the distance. Treat yourself to dinner at the revolving restaurant and let your children enjoy their special "space noodles". Back on the ground, don't miss Pioneer Square, another famous Seattle landmark. With international cuisine, a historical gold rush park, an exciting and spooky subterranean tour of Seattle, there's something for everyone. Be sure to check out the natural soda company, with flavors like Wild Lime and Vanilla Bean, for a unique treat for the kids.
