Considered America’s heartland, Wisconsin is a year-round destination with a cosmopolitan feel and beautiful countryside. Breathe in the fresh air at Apostle Island and Peninsula State Park while kayaking or hiking with your family. There is plenty of space to play and enjoy the outdoors and also a bountiful selection of cheese in factory tours, if you get hungry. Back in the cities, take the kids for some dinosaur fun at one of many geology-based museums or hunt for rocks at Cave of the Mounds and learn how to go spelunking.

Escape to Apostle Island, near the mainland of Lake Superior, where your family can hike the islands, go on a camping adventure, sail the waters, and nab a shuttle running between the islands. Kayaking is also an option for kids 8 and up, making it easy to island hop. If you're visiting in winter, the ice caves are a spectacular sight, but use caution and check for updates.

has eight miles of shoreline for camping, biking, and lying on the beach.

Discover endless attractions in the famous cities Kenosha, Milwaukee, and Madison. Bring the kids along to the Geology Museum in Madison, the Dinosaur Discovery Museum in Kenosha, and the Milwaukee Public Museum in Milwaukee. Your children will enjoy taking a giant leap back into the dinosaur era and discovering fossils. Once named the largest diorama in North America, the Milwaukee Public Museum was the first in the world to recreate life-size models of dinosaurs in their authentic habitat. Today it remains a marvel for kids of all ages.

Hunting for rocks is a must in Wisconsin, so don't miss the Cave of the Mounds, a National Natural Landmark. The underground lit caves display unique crystal formations and it’s always a cozy 50 degrees inside. Kids will get a lesson in spelunking, stalactites and stalagmites, and investigating over 400 million year old rock formations. No trip is complete without some scrumptious Wisconsin cheese. Kids can discover the process of cheese making at factories with free samples and observation windows for checking out the machines. The Union Star Cheese Factory offers tours almost every morning.
