The Water Conservation Garden is a great place for a picnic, nature, and hands-on learning. You and your little one will delight in touring any number of the 12 exhibits offered, such as the Sensory Garden, full of plants with sensory qualities such as scents and soft touches; the Butterfly Pavilion, featuring a diverse array of native Southern Californian butterflies; or the Cactus Garden, displaying succulents and cacti from around the world. Top off the day with more beauty, enjoying a picnic in the rose-lined Gazebo. Even better, every exhibit is in place to educate the public on water conservation practices and to inspire innovative planting and gardening techniques. The museum shares the art, life, and legacy of El Cajon resident, Olaf Wieghorst, the self-taught painter from the American West dubbed the “Dean of Western Painters". You and your family will get the unique opportunity to explore the history of Cowboys, American Indians, Pioneers, and much more, through both performance and visual art.
