Known as the “Old Line State,” Maryland offers busy harbor cities, endless miles of coasts and outdoor adventure, as well as museums and historical sites sure to entertain and enlighten kids of all ages.

Hit the boardwalk in Ocean City with your child and leap into old-fashioned fun. Ride the Ferris Wheel, challenge the children to a game at the arcade, or dive into excitement as you take a ride on the roller coaster. Once you wear out the kids with activities, a wide variety of family-friendly restaurants abound on the boardwalk. Don't forget to hit the large play equipment at Northside Park. Then visit National Harbor where you can stroll along the Potomac River and participate in special events hosted by the city, such as Kid's Day or various food festivals. Don't forget a trip to Annapolis, where you and the kids can watch the sailing boats zoom across the water or even rent a ride for yourselves.

Let the family lounge about on one of Maryland's soft sandy beaches, such as Mayo Beach Park or Ocean City. Deep Creek Lake area offers four seasons of family excitement, especially during the summer months when boating and swimming conditions are ideal. Camping, beach access, sailing and a kid-centric Discovery Center are among the best attractions. Find outdoor adventures at the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. There are over 184 miles of canals, wetlands, open fields and rocky cliffs to discover. Cruise along one of the many dirt-packed towpaths once used by mules to transport canal boats.

Hurtle into history and culture in Maryland at one of the state's many museums. Do you have a railroad or train enthusiast in your family? The B&O Railroad Museum will certainly encourage their passion. Forty acres of “please touch” railroad experiences, including a large collection of locomotives and replicas of scale trains, await your little conductor. Showcase performing arts culture at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center, packed full of performances to enchant children. Trace the trail of Civil War history when you visit one of this border state's Civil War battlefields to propel any young learners' curiosity.
