Tennessee, the birthplace of good old rock n' roll, is bursting with fascinating culture, history, and outdoor adventures. Keep it old school and take a steam boat down the Memphis River, pack up the family and head to a museum, and delight in the unique experience of ice skating in the Great Smoky Mountains.

Take a tour of Tennessee aboard a Paddlewheeler to journey along the downtown Memphis Riverfront as you witness some of Memphis history. Evening tickets include a traditional BBQ meal that will keep the kids happy and full. The Fall Creek Falls State Park is a definite must-see, so be sure to hike out to the tallest waterfall with your family. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is full of scenic hikes, and one of the best is Laurel Falls. Hikers will walk for 2.3 miles round trip with a climb of 314 feet to reach the 80 foot waterfall. If you’d rather hike behind a waterfall without being soaked, try the 1.4 mile hike to Grotto Falls.

Discover a new frontier at the Adventure Science Center, which houses a planetarium and gives kids the chance to walk on the moon in the Space Chase exhibit. Try out the Little Labs Program for exciting age-specific crafts and lab activities. At the Pink Palace, kids can open their minds to the cultural and natural history of the South and gaze into the stars at the planetarium. Also check out The Chattanooga Choo Choo, a 24-acre complex with antique trolley rides and a model railroad museum. Let your children stay overnight in one of the old rail cars for a totally unique experience.

Ready for a walking history lesson? Head to Franklin, where you can tour Carnton Plantation and meet Abraham Lincoln. Stand with your kids to watch a blacksmith at work or learn about the Civil War era. In Nashville, you can stroll through the home of President Jackson at the Hermitage and view entertaining historical interpreters in costume. The town of Gatlinburg in the Great Smokey Mountains is sure to impress any child with a tram ride up the mountain. Let the kids test their balance skills on the ice rink, meet some new furry friends like black bears and raccoons, or go for a slide down the Alpine Tracks for a total adrenaline rush.
