Delve into some of the most pivotal moments of American history in Pennsylvania, where old monuments and beautiful landscapes blend together to create a remarkable state to visit. Tour historical markers, explore the beautiful wilds, or dive into the fun of some of the enthralling museums.

Jump into Philadelphia, where colonial architecture sets the backdrop for many historical moments. Your kids will love checking out the Liberty Bell, where reenactments in old-style garb and tricorn hats are sure to delight. Ride the Parx Liberty Carousel in Franklin Square, or see a 3D show about the lights of liberty at the PECO Theater, led by Benjamin Franklin himself. Gettysburg National Park, where a turning point in the Civil War changed this nation's trajectory indefinitely, will also give children a poignant sense of the past. With so many significant moments bundled into just a few places, these experiences are sure to be more inspiring than your average history textbook.

Visit several of the fascinating museums located in Pennsylvania, starting with The National Constitution Center. Elementary school-aged children will love the History Detectives Workshop, where they can study American life in the 19th century. Teens can take advantage of the workshop decoding the Emancipation Proclamation, and audio tours exploring the oval office will make it that much more fun. Check out the National Liberty Museum, where kids can create community garden murals, learn about resolving conflicts, or even make arts and crafts celebrating the United States' melting pot of diversity. With awesome spots like Sesame Place to watch parades or splash in the water, there won't be a shortage of activities for kids of all ages.

Discover some of the state's natural beauty, including Crystal Cave Park, an underground phenomenon located near Kutztown. Here, your kids will be able to learn the science behind rock formation and comprehend how certain minerals came to be. Head underground to check out stalagmites and pillar formations in the unique caves, then dig through dirt with your children to find gems or fossils to keep as souvenirs. Families looking for adventure will have a blast zip lining at Summit Aerial Park, horseback riding at Apollo Farms, or even whitewater rafting through Jim Thorpe Water Adventures. With skiing on the agenda come winter, you'll have to come back more than once to experience it all.
